Title: Beginner - Planetary Nodes
Post by: Marigold on Sep 21, 2013, 03:35 PM
I understand how lunar nodes work.
I have this diagram here, for reference. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Lunar_eclipse_diagram-en.svg

For planetary nodes, are we to draw the apparent path of the planets around the Earth, and see where they meet at the Ecliptic?

Hi Marigold,
It's not about where the planets themselves meet the ecliptic, it's their orbital path as it crosses the ecliptic.

I've enclosed a group of diagrams I created for the beginners classes that I teach. These may help in clarifying the basics of how that works. It starts off by demonstrating a heliocentric version of the ecliptic and then it looks at the same thing from the earth's point of view.
Love, am

That was helpful. So the nodes are based on the geocentric view, and they represent the two points where the planets' orbits hit the ecliptic.
