Hi Deva,
Just in the process of contemplating the Capricorn archetype and have been wondering about the stated need for Cap/Saturn to access chaos. On the Capricorn thread you had written:
"...Wanted to add some thoughts about Capricorn and the dynamic of emotional repression. It is not uncommon that people who a have an emphasized Capricorn signature to have the experience of being forced to grow up very quickly out of life circumstances they cannot control. In some cases these people in childhood have acted as a type of defacto parent to their own parents because of the mother or fathers, or both, emotional instability. In other words, the person was forced to grow up too quickly, and had many responsibilities at an early age. However, relative to the 4th house, or cancer polarity point, the person will also desire to be the child at some point in time, or at least access the emotions that were repressed during childhood. There is also a fear of vulnerability which leads to trying to control or suppress emotions. This can be out of difficult childhood experiences where the person was in someway hurt when in a vulnerable state, or having an early family environment where it was not safe to express natural emotions or to be vulnerable. Again, in order for the Capricorn archtype to be expressed in a natural, or undistorted state, those emotions must be accessed and released. It is a very real sense of having to go backwards in order to go forwards!"
My question is: does what is written here reflect the reasons WHY Capricorn needs to access chaos? I'm thinking yes but I wanted clarification. Also, I guess a follow up: the need to access chaos is NOT a need to be out of control? Rather, it is a need to access the inner emotional content that is the foundation for the development of true maturity? In other words, without accessing chaos, the possibility for authentic development is not possible?
Thanks, and peace,
Ellen
Addition: Also, is there a specific definition for chaos that EA uses? And if so, what is it? Thanks!
Hi Ellen, thanks for posting your question. The core issue of the Capricorn archetype and the need to access chaos is the need to experience vulnerability (cancer polarity point). As I mentioned before, the Capricorn archetype in its distorted form manifests as emotional repression, and also a fear of vulnerability. As a consequence there are repressed emotional needs that must be accessed at some point in order for "true emotional maturity" to manifest through this archetype. By "accessing chaos", or simply allowing oneself to be vulnerable and, ultimately, learn to nurture these repressed needs from within oneself (cancer polarity point) the true wisdom and strength of the Capricorn archetype can be expressed. There is no specific definition of chaos used in EA (just the usual meaning of the word). All to often those with a dominate Capricorn signature attempt to control their environment and their emotions because of the fear of vulnerability. In other words, the person always has to be, (or at least appear to be), "in control". In this sense, the need to access chaos means to release this pattern of emotional repression and control, and in this way access their true sensitivity and emotional nature.
Hope this helps!
God Bless
Deva
