Hello,
I have seen this before, but not a ton. I am looking at an individuals chart now who has Pluto in Libra/1st house, therefore the PPP is the opposite in Aries/7th house. Also the SN is in Sag/3rd house and NN is in Gemini/9th. See the exact paradox here? Each one is a mirror of the other. I understand that Pluto has generational/individual implications, but does the PPP also?
So is this a case of past and future being equally mastered or a case of neither being totally completed....or neither? For example, you could say she has an equal gift of right and left brain capacities, or you could say neither have been fully developed.
And further it confuses me because it seems the past and future are the same, just interchanged between house/sign.
Thanks for any insights,
Peace
Rick
Hi Rick,
This topic has been discussed a few times.
You can go to "Pluto in a house and sign that are naturally opposite:" at

In this discussion there are also other links to more discussions and transcripts.
Hope this is helpful.

Hey JJ
Thx, I tried doing a search, but I guess I didnt word it right. I will check it out.
Appreciate it!
Peace
I didnt realize it would be as simple as typing in "paradox" in the search.......my bad. I was making it too complicated. Good info there and a lot of it, thx again
Ok,
I read thru all I could find on paradox within a chart. It was very enlightening, but I am still left with a couple questions.
1) Because of the struggle of the energies between the 2 (relationship vs freedom), is it to be treated somewhat like skipped steps or more specifically Pluto squared the nodes? Like both sets of lessons have been worked on but neither completed? Therefore is there a resolution node so to speak for the paradox, or is all just about finding the balance (Libra) between the two?
2)How do I go about reading the chart? I typically go thru the trinity of the past then trinity of future etc. Well in this case, its kind of all the same in a way. There are differences, but its just a matter of house vs sign. Maybe I just answered my own question. In the trinity of the future the focus should be on the house as which side of the paradox needs the most individual work and focus, whereas in the past the opposite would have been the focus?????
Hope this all makes sense. I am trying to let my intuition do its thing, but SN Gemini is taking over.
Thx all

no

Remember that every possible house/sign combination expresses a particular archetypal relationship. For example Scorpio on the 3rd expresses the natural inconjunct relationship (Scorpio/Gemini) and so on.
This just seems like a challenge to understand because the left brain gets tripped up on the details and misses the simple intuition of it all (hows that for Sag in the 3rd!)
I agree that paradoxical charts is about learning balance. What is balance? it's a natural rhythm between extremes that is found by understanding where everything goes/belongs at the right time and right place. This is the nature of the opposition archetype- being flung between extremes and not ever feeling all that much integrated or balanced... until the proper wisdom is developed.

Also want to point something out. In the case of the sn and nn being in a paradoxical sign/house combo, there are still 2 different nodal rulers somewhere in the chart- one which points to the past and one which points to the future.
In combination with Pluto and its polarity point, this is how we can ultimately understand the story of WHY the paradoxical chart to begin with.
Thx Ari,
Makes sense. So, for example this chart has Pluto in 1st/Libra and PPP would then be opposite 7th/Aries. It also has SN Sag/3rd and NN Gemini/9th. So even though the past and the future seem like the same thing they are not. Meaning, Sag/3rd is a different archetype than Gemini/9th? Is that because the house is first and it is filtered thru the sign? So each one is similar, but different. Also then you are saying to look at Jupiter and Mercury as the rulers, which will give answers as to the why the paradox(SN ruler) and how to overcome the paradox (NN ruler). I have to shut my brain off, its starting to hurt.
Thanks again!
Peace Rick

The point I'm making here is that the archetypes are natural polarities to one another, which implies a specific kind of archetypal situation. So instead of trying to figure out the difference between the two, just let it be graceful. Sag and Gemini mixed together. What is the evolutionary intention of that synthesis? What are the challenges? And then the rulers of course provide more tangible differentiation.
Over time the subtle nuance of what makes Sag in the 3rd different than Gemini in the 9th may make more sense to you. (ie looking at more charts and making your own observations over time). When I first started studying astrology I often created formulas for myself such as, "house=essence, sign=orientation. Sag on the third = expansive approach to perceiving. Or seeking meaning through data. etc..." However what I had to realize was no matter how many equations and examples I wrote, these combinations are actually living archetypes that reflect actual realities and are loaded with meaning. So for me it has been and still is a process of looking at chart, giving readings, and just living life. My own experience is what shows me the many many layers behind any sign house combination. In the end, no equation or formula will ever fully express the INFINITE possibilities and potential of any combination. It's so much vaster than that.
SN in Sag in the 3rd can create emotional security by way of having convinced itself that it has all the facts. But is there truly a depth of understanding? That's the point here. Allow the intuition to be your #1 guide. This again is the nature of a paradoxical chart; balance means learning how to gracefully flow between opposites. This implies a learning curve. Discovering what imbalance FEELS like and growing from that.

What I suggest is to think about how the basic trinity of the past (pluto sn and its ruler) provides context for a non paradoxical chart and then to apply that same logic to a paradoxical chart. In both cases, Pluto, the sn, its ruler and the aspects to them all, indicate the underlying karmic and evolutionary condition that has lead to this life in the first place.
