Does Evolutionary Astrology use traditional rulers?

Hello,

I'm not particularly new to astrology as a study, however, I have only read one book on Evolutionary Astrology, and I have a few basic questions that I would appreciate some assistance with. These questions are regarding the framework and basic principles of Evolutionary Astrology.

I am new to this board, and I would like to participate, however I want to be sure that information, ideas, and opinions I provide are in line with the basic principles of the communities efforts, and essential background.

Question One : I understand that, for example, in Evolutionary Astrology, Uranus is a higher Octave of Mercury, and Neptune is a higher Octave of Venus, ect.

In traditional astrology Mars is the ruler of Scorpio. Does Evolutionary Astrology utilize this concept as well?

Is Mercury still the ruler of Virgo?

I guess I would appreciate a little assistance in the views held here, about planetary rulerships. The above questions would be nice to have answered, however in a broader sense, I would like information on planetary rulerships in Evolutionary Astrology, and any philosophical backgrounds, or principles associated with this.

Perhaps it's my Virgo South Node with Mercury in Capricorn in the 11th, but I prefer to know these tedious things before I jump in. :-)

Hi Pattycr,

First, welcome to our community and message board. In EA Mars is the lower octave of Pluto, and is the natural ruler of Aries. Mercury is the natural ruler of Virgo.

God Bless, Rad

Hi There Pattycr,

Welcome to the EA message board! ;)

In response to this part of your question -
You Write: "however in a broader sense ... any philosophical backgrounds, or principles associated with this." -- I thought to add this link below to a radio show that is hosted by a wonderful long time EA astrologer named Kristin Fontana, if you have not yet heard of her radio show? One of the radio interviews she does is called "THE BIRTH OF EA" -- this interview is available for download in the archives section. I think you may get perhaps some questions answered by listening in to that show particularly. And all the shows are very useful. That show does not speak of Planetary Rulers but you do get the feel for the background of  EA (Jeff Green's) and how it came into being.

Here is the link: http://www.healthylife.net/RadioShow/archiveGS.htm

Maybe you might let us know if you find this helpful?

Nice to have you here.

Peace,
Dhyana

PS. I was also thinking that if you read the PRACTICE CHARTS SECTIONS here on the MB, you will definitely get a sense of planetary rulers, and how important it is to grok the Archetypes.

Blessings,
Dhyana

hi Pattycr

A question you asked that Rad didn't answer is that EA (and most modern astrology) sees Pluto as the ruler of Scorpio.  Mars is the lower octave of Pluto, and would be considered a co-ruler, although in EA we tend to see Pluto as the ruler and rarely refer to Mars as a co-ruler.

Mars is Aries energy, instinctual, and is the carrier, the vehicle, by which the Soul (Pluto) transmits its intentions, desires, into human awareness at an instinctual sub-conscious level - primal urges.

In terms of extended discussion of what you further asked about, that has been done here many times as others have said, and is all available in the earlier discussions on this board.

The best one volume introduction to EA is Jeffrey Wolf Green's first book, Pluto Vol. 1.  The book is experienced by many people as a slow read because it is very concentrated.  There is a paragraph or two packed into many of its single sentences.  It needs to be ingested, slowly, allowing what is it saying to permeate and penetrate  (Scorpio).    As you familiarize yourself with the EA principles laid out in that book you will understand more and more of what is being discussed on this board.

Thanks for showing up and asking questions.
take care
Steve
