When Nodes are Direct

Hi all,
I am brand new to EA, working my way through the first section of the DVD course.  Love it  :)

This is my first question on the board and it may have already been answered at some point, however when I search I cannot find it.

I would like to know what the meaning is when the Nodes - South/North are direct.   I understand that they are mostly in Retrograde.   I have one chart where they are direct and am curious.

Thanks <3
Patty

Hi Patty,

Welcome to the message board.

Here is an excerpt, all about the Nodes, from the EA Glossary:

Nodes - direct

Jeffrey wrote that in his experience, in general people with Nodes direct in their chart had a clearer idea earlier in life of their life direction than people with retrograde Nodes, however not in every case. I've discussed this in the past with other EA astrologers, and not everyone has experienced that correlation. It needs to be examined by each astrologer from their personal chart experiences. (Steve)

Q. If natal Nodes are in direct motion, do we use the same method to calculate the phase between Nodes/planets?

A. We use the same method because the MEAN MOTION of the Nodes is retrograde. (Rad)

Mean motion of the Nodes

The mean motion of the Lunar Nodes is retrograde in all charts, even if the Nodes are direct in a specific chart. In all cases the Nodes enter a sign at 29 degrees and exit at 0 degrees. (Steve)

There is a difference between Mean Nodes and Mean Motion. Mean Nodes is a mathematical abstraction that smoothes out the actual motion of the Nodes. This does not exist in reality, only in abstraction. Mean Motion means that, overall, the movement of the Nodes is retrograde, even though there are periods when the Nodes are direct and moving forward. (Steve)

True Nodes

EA astrologers have been taught to use True Nodes, as that is what actually exists in the sky. (Steve)

Nodes at 29 degrees

Remember that when we work with Nodes that their mean motion is retrograde. Thus, the 29 degrees would actually correlate to just coming into, like a new phase, the sign. (Rad)

Nodes at 0 degrees

This means an entire evolutionary cycle is culminating when the degrees are zero and a few minutes. The Soul is now preparing to begin an entire brand new cycle of evolutionary development as symbolized in the signs to come. Thus, this is a cycle of CULMINATION of many prior lives, and the dynamics that created those lives. This can create a sense of Soul frustration in many with these symbols because they can feel or sense what is ahead, of wanting to leap forwards, even as they must culminate all that has come before. (Rad)

Nodes at 1 degree

The natal symbols remain in the context of the current life. So with a North Node at 1 degree of Scorpio for example, that Node will remain in Scorpio for the entire life. The progression of it into the late degrees of Libra means that the dynamics of Libra will be evolved towards, yet INTEGRATED THROUGH THE NATAL NODE IN SCORPIO. (Rad)

Nodes - stationary

A stationing anything, planet or node, is a magnifying force. (Rad)

I hope the above helps,

Linda

This is great.  Thank you.

So... what is a True Node?

thanks

Hi Patty,

"True" and "Mean" are the two ways to calculate the Nodes of the Moon.

Mean Node is a mathematical abstraction that smoothes out the actual motion of the Nodes,

while the True Node is the position that actually exists in the sky.

The difference between them is insignificant.

Hope this helps,

Linda

Patty

Thanks again Linda.  Very helpful.
